About

Hi there. If you can’t tell already, I heart old houses – from California bungalows to stately Victorians, from quaint cottages and to sprawling farmhouses. Maybe it’s a form of rebellion (I grew up in a fast-growing suburb of grey and beige “little boxes”) but I love old houses for their character and history. I swoon over built-in cabinets, creaky hardwood floors and, yes, even that musty old house smell.

I dream of owning an original Sears home, but for now I’m happy with my plain little 1940s cottage. This blog is about my journey to spruce up our place with arts and crafts and other old house-inspired touches – and all the vintage/retro finds and envy-inducing houses we encounter along the way. Welcome.

  1. I’m so happy to have found your blog! I also heart old houses. We have an 1874 farmhouse that we are trying to turn back into something beautiful. You can check it out on my blog. My blog is also about our family’s life, but if you click on house restoration, I have some stuff up. I need to spend a day and add a ton of photos from the beginning, but it’s a start and I think you would enjoy it. I look forward to catching up on all of your blog and for further projects that you finish with your home.

    • Hi Stephanie, I love your house! I’m so glad you guys were able to keep the original clapboard siding. What is the paint color you are using? It’s beautiful. I can’t wait to see more pictures of your progress. As a side note, I couldn’t resist checking out your California trip. I’m from Northern California, but have been to a lot of the places you visited, and it’s always cool to see your home state through a visitor’s eyes!

  2. Hi! Thanks for the compliments! We are using the Historic line from Benjamin Moore. The main color is Kennebunkport Green, the trim is Windham Cream, and the accent color is New London Burgandy. I wanted more of a plum burgandy than a red burgandy. I really love it. I just can’t wait until the entire exterior is done! lol

We absolutely LOVED California! We wish we could have visited Northern California too. I bet it’s gorgeous! We would love to see the Redwood trees. We’ll get there someday though. lol

  3. If you love old houses, I invite you the visit a new website I have recently launched: Historyofhomes.net

Be sure to add a few homes of your own.
